Full metal (real steel) airsoft rifles are legal in Canada. If they are illegal in Canada then why do most well known airsoft retailers still have their licence to sell full metal (real steel) rifles.
Full Metal guns are allowed, however it has to be above 366 FPS or it would be considered a replica and can be confiscated. Clear guns are always allowed, no matter what the FPS.

You must be over 18 to purchase a full metal body but you only need to be like 13 to purchase clear body
Most stores still require you to be 18 or over to buy any type of airsoft gun.
So a clear gun with FPS of 350 is allowed but if it is coming threw the border clear or not it has to be in between the uncontrolled zone?
Guns that have clear bodies are unrestricted, however if the gun has a black or non-see through body; it’s FPS must fit the uncontrolled zone mins and maxs (366-500)

Government has just updated laws pertaining to ownership of airsoft guns. November 2014 “Canada’s top court rules that air guns (including airsoft) are now to be categorized as firearms”. Not sure how this is going to effect things in the industry. Thought I’d mention it for the staff on this site to check out. Sun news network video story.

What is the laws considering public parks are you allowed to have them there and shoot them.
Any area that is not considered private property or a regulated field is illegal and not recommended to fire or even have any Airsoft weapons in the open.

A store in my town is selling a EF 1911 Tac which has a muzzle velocity of 345 fps (bttw i’m from Canada) is this illegal?
The regulations are primarily for the import of airsoft guns.
Not sure where the 500fps upper limit gets in the airsoft world, according to RCMP website, an airgun needs to be 500+fps AND 5.7+J in order to be classified as firearm. Correct me if I am wrong, a 0.2g BB needs to be flying at 783fps in order to have 5.7J .

If you read correctly that and/or statement is for a firearm defined by the criminal code, not the firearms act. An airsoft gun need to meet both >500 fps and >5.7 j in order to be considered a firearm that requires a PAL. The definition for the criminal code is so that if an airsoft gun is used in a robbery, the criminals can be charged with firearms offences even if it isn’t actually a firearm.
Yep, the upper limit of 500FPS is because people are ignorant and some others decided that fear and ignorance was the best way to determine this limit.
The 500fps limit is based on the 500fps+ classification for a firearm and DID NOT consider the Joule factor because most people can’t even do the math or read properly so they just take the drawing of the text “500fps in order to he classified as firearm”… Every other information related to that has vanish in the abyss of the collective ignorance of canadians.
And then, some sensible people thought that it was the best idea in the world to include kids as younger as 10 y old on the field and the biased decision was suddenly logical for the mass…

In Quebec, it’s even worst… the limit on the field is 400 for everyone, even for snipers! If there is a way to limit a sport in the long run is to avoid the base principle of it… handgun 400fps… AEG 400 fps… sniper 400fps… (all with 0,2g BB’S)… so technically, we could shoot in close combat with an AEG or even a sniper with no difference in regard of the health of players.
I have a Mauser SR rifle that is not a Reel Steel rifle or a clear body and it stated 492 fps on the box. Is this even legal?!
And if the airsoft is transporting with you, make sure you declare it. It just takes you couple extra minutes extra for the officer to take a look at it(if he/she chooses to). If you dont declare it and the officer finds out himself, you will need a whole lot longer to convince the officer that you are not trying to smuggle the thing.

Under the 500fps limit should be fine just make sure you get all the required forms for importing/bringing across the border and properly declare it when entering Canada.
Still confused on something, so what FPS does the Airsoft gun have to shoot to not be consficated and still able to use at Airsoft fields?
The guns needs to shoot 366-500 fps, but check your field for their limits.
I agree with the 366fps as minimum(using 0.2g BB), but I don’t believe 500fps is the upper fps limit for using a 0.2g projectile. Here’s the excerpt from RCMP website:
“1. Air guns that are firearms for purposes of both the Firearms Act and the Criminal Code
These are air guns with both a high muzzle velocity (greater than 152.4 metres or 500 feet per second) and a high muzzle energy (greater than 5.7 joules or 4.2 foot-pounds). ”
At 5.7J, a 0.2g BB goes at 238m/s, which is 787fps.

You are fine shooting in your basement, just make sure you are not visible to your neighbours since walking around with a realistic looking gun may cause concern and a possible call to the police.

If the gun made it through Canada Customs, with the proper declarations, you should be fine. Most CQB fields will require 350fps or lower.

It falls within the guidelines, so yes. Check your field to see what their fps limits are for snipers.
